The purpose of the Prevention Resource Centers (PRC) is to increase the capacity of the statewide substance use/misuse prevention system. There are 11 PRCs in Texas, each one representing a Texas Health and Human Services region.
The PRCs work together with community coalitions, prevention programs and community stakeholders that hold, gather information and resources that increase community awareness, readiness, and services related to substance use, behavioral health and health.
The PRCs follow the Strategic Prevention Framework model of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and strengthen prevention efforts and strategies for coordination across multiple levels of impact following the Social Ecological Model.
