CBSG: Kids’ Connection / Youth Connection

This training is intended for Youth Prevention (YP) providers who are approved by Texas HHSC to implement CBSG: Kids’ Connection/Youth Connection curricula.

CBSG: KCYC is a unique, multi-cultural, evidence-based preventive intervention for selective and indicated populations. It is designed to increase resilience and protective factors in children and youth who experience adversity, trauma and toxic stress and are an excellent modality for children and youth to learn and practice the social, emotional and coping skills they need both in the present and the future. Every child and situation is different, but there is one constant – children thrive in a safe and caring environment with a nurturing adult(s).

The support group modality sets the CBSG Program apart from other preventive interventions.  Children and youth meet in confidential, small group settings and are taught a set of essential life skills to help them learn how to:  cope with difficult family situations, resist negative peer pressure, respect themselves and others, set and achieve goals, make healthy choices, and refuse alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

– Identify the theoretical foundations, domains, and major messages of the CBSG Program
– Describe Adverse Childhood Experiences and the impact of trauma/toxic stress
– Identify risk and protective factor theories
– Apply Social Emotional Learning (SEL) concepts
– Describe the facilitator’s role in implementing the CBSG Program
– Implement the CBSG Program: Kids’ Connection / Youth Connection
