DESCRIPTION:Description\n\nThis training is intended for substance use prevention professionals in Texas.\nAbout the YMHFA Training:\nYouth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.\nContinuing Education Hours: 5.5*\nSatisfactory completion of continuing education hours (CEHs) requires attending at least 85% of the training duration, participating in activities (e.g., polls, breakout rooms), and completing the training evaluation.\nTrainer:\nAlexandra Reyes- Program Director Serving Children and Adults in Need, Inc.\nRequirements:\nThis YMHFA training is virtual, occurring live over Zoom. All participants are expected to fully engage in the training, which calls for reliable internet connection and use of a webcam. All participants are required to join on camera and expected to fully engage in the training to be eligible to receive a Continuing Education (CE) certificate upon completion.\nThe training includes a 2 hour self-paced pre work training that participants must complete before the live virtual training via ZOOM.\nRegistration:\nThis training is limited to 15 participants. You must submit a registration and be approved to attend (you will receive an email approving or denying your registration).
